WiiKey 2 Wii Mod Chip Guide & Information

The WiiKey 2 has finally been released and what a chip it is, these latest edition to the WiiKey family have managed to obtain just 5 wires on DMS / D2B like the old WiiKey chips, but the amazing feat was they have now managed to reduce the amount of wires on the WiiKey 2 for D2C / D2C2 & D2E drives to just 6-wires, that’s right, it’s now just 6-wires for those latest models. You no longer have to solder any points to the legs on the controller IC making the WiiKey 2 incredibly easy to install compared to other D2C to D2E chips. This could not have come at a better time with the release of the Epoxy D2E boards in AU and Europe, these new drives have had epoxy applied to the boards to try and stop people using Wii-Clips and make installing chips just that much harder, with the 6-wire install for the WiiKey 2 you will not have to remove the epoxy from the controller IC to expose legs to solder to, with that said some of the epoxy does need to be removed for points C & D, but this won’t be a problem for most installers and will be a lot easier than if you had to remove the epoxy to get to the legs on the controller IC. Below we have a picture of these new epoxy D2E drives so you know what to look out for, also note there was a 9-wire version of the WiiKey 2 released with a white sticker, we also have photos below that show you the 6-wire WiiKey 2 modchip have a yellow sticker and this is how you can tell you have a 6-wire version of the chip, maybe before you buy anything you should ask your supplier if they are sending you the yellow or white sticker version of the WiiKey 2 so you know what you are getting.

Another great feature that has been just released on the latest config disk and update v1.2 is an advanced brick blocker, this function has been a long awaited feature that will totally stop the major problem in the chip community where a person would be able to accept a Wii system update from a game outside their consoles region, for example, if you own a PAL system and were playing an NTSC game that had a Wii system update newer than the one running on your console, this game would then attempt to update your PAL system with a NTSC systems firmware, this is what people call bricking your Wii and it can cause anything from total failure of the Wii console, to not being able to play games from your region anymore and some other bad things. With this advanced brick blocker that has been introduced, you just set the chip up in the config disk to only accept updates from your consoles region and you no longer have to worry about ever bricking your console again, this feature really does make the WiiKey 2 the safest chip on the market to be chipping you Wii console with. Note the D2Pro also got this advanced brick blocker, so for owners of the good old D2Pro you are safe as well. All this is just proof that the team behind these chips are committed to making valuable updates to their firmware with new features and not just bug fixes.

Something else the team has done with the WiiKey 2 that makes us happy here at wiikey guide is they have imbedded a unique serial number for every single WiiKey 2 chip, this means that cloners are going to find it next to impossible to sell their knock of versions of these chips without being caught quite easily. You won’t need to use close guides or look for different markings on the chips, all you will need to do now is verify with the WiiKey 2 team that your serial number is valid, we are also pretty sure that the config disk will not function on a clone of the WiiKey 2 as it has a built in validation of the serial number. So people can feel confidant when buying the WiiKey 2 that they will be able to quite easily be able to tell if they were sold a knock off clone, and we think with this level of security the clone makers won’t even bother trying to make clones of these great chips, this is wonderful news for us all.

The WiiKey 2 is using a high quality Lattice IC as the main processor, some in the past have thought Lattice IC’s were slightly inferior to that of the Actel, but from reports already these Lattice IC hold their own against D2Pro and also have more pathways available for future updates and possibly new drive types to be added. In the end we can see the WiiKey 2 fast becoming the most popular and sort after chip for the Wii console, with the prices of D2Pro still being so high and not really outperforming the WiiKey 2 except for the J-Tag support, the WiiKey 2 is easily going to become the chip to own for most Wii owners out there.
